A Summer School on Hydrological Extreme Events, organized within the framework of the HyCo-Geo Competence Center, provided 20 international students with insights into current research questions and regional topics of water management.

From 26.09.2022 to 30.09.2022 the first HyCo-Geo Summer School has taken place. A broad field of experts from science and practice introduced the students to the theory and practice of water management, always focusing on Hydrological Extreme Events. Especially in view of climatic changes, a conscious and foresighted handling of water is essential, not only as a resource, but also as an integral part of landscape and society. The extreme hydrological events of the recent years, like the flood in July 2021 and the drought summers of 2018 and 2022, can provide valuable insights and were therefore addressed by many speakers. In addition to lectures, which covered a broad thematic field from climatic basics and historical reconstructions to the management of water bodies and their social relevance, hands-on seminars were an important component. The program was complemented by excursions to the Meuse and the New Inde.
