In our laboratory we carry out, in particular, physical and chemical analyses of soils and sediments as well as hydrochemical analyses. Those analyses and measurements are important aids for the research in a variety of topics and furthermore support teaching in the field of physical geography.

Among other things, we are able to perform a particle size analysis with a laser diffractometer to determine the elemental composition by means of stationary X-ray fluorescence analysis, to measure the carbon, nitrogen and sulfur content in samples, to quantify the carbonate content using a Scheibler apparatus, to use spectrophotometic analyses and to produce preparations for microscopic heavy mineral analyses.

A number of student assistants are employed to assist in the laboratory and practical courses are held there on a regular basis.
